AN EVENING WITH KENNETH ANGER

VENUS & APOLL, Worringer Platz 8, 40210 Düsseldorf

FILM SCREENING:
Puce Moment (6 min., 1949)
Inauguration of the Pleasure Dome (38 min., 1954)
The Man We Want To Hang (14 min., 1995-2002)

followed by a conversation with Kenneth Anger
hosted by Daniel Kothenschulte & Philipp Fürnkäs

Forbearer of pop art, pioneer of camp culture: Kenneth Anger, 86 years old, is the last survivor of the early American avant-garde film. At the age of 15 Anger creates first masterpiece Tinsel Tree (1942): a hand coloured film in which a christmas tree catches fires. His short film Fireworks (1947), a homosexual fantasy in which he plays the lead role is one of the most cited avantgarde films. As the author of the scandalous chronicle Hollywood Babylon he established an alternative reading of the studio cinema and provided a model of artististic appropriation of its heritage of images.

The event is part of the Kenneth Anger restrospective in cooperation with VIDEONALE.14 - Festival For Contemporary Video Art, Bonn.
