Anselm Franke
new artistic director

Extra City (in Antwerpen, Holland, THW) is pleased to announce Anselm Franke as its new artistic director. He was choosen by an international selection committee including Nicolaus Schafhausen (director Witte de With, Rotterdam), Luc Tuymans (artist), Ann Demeester (director De Appel, Amsterdam), Barbara Vanderlinden (director Roomade, Brussels), Wilfried Cooreman en Marc Ruyters (both members of the Extra City board) out of 70 candidates. Franke, born in South-Germany, was working as an independent curator and critic for various German and international art institutions. He was the curator and director of exhibitions of KW Institute for Contemporary Art in Berlin until 2006, where he curated exhibitions such as Territories: Islands, Camps and Other States of Utopia (2003), Image Archives (2001/2002), The Imaginary Number (2005, together with Hila Peleg) and B-Zone – Becoming Europe and Beyond.

Wir gratulieren! Davor oder gleichzeitig ist er mit Stefanie Schulte Strathaus (FdK, Berlin) verantwortlicher Kurator des 'Forum expanded' im Rahmen der Berliner Filmfestspiele.
